(AGI) Abu Dhabi, Feb 16 - The futuristic applications of nuclear physics to art, ranging from dating relics to conservation diagnostics to identifying fakes, are the central theme of the conference taking place at the Dubai Capital Club, headed by Pier Andrea Mando', former director of the Florence base of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics and member of Florence's semi-precious stone workshop. In a meeting with Abu Dhabi's culture and tourism authorities, Mando' was also asked to organise training courses and seminars for local young restorers. The event is the fourth in a series of 'Extra-Ordinary Italy' cultural initiatives organised by the Italian embassy to bring the international and local community of the Emirates closer to Italian excellence. The initiative, like its predecessors, is the result of the Italian embassy's collaboration with Abu Dhabi's New York University (NYUAD). Previously, a debate between Italian documentary maker Alina Marazzi and UAE director Mustafa Abbas had taken place. This was followed by a presentation, in collaboration with the UAE University of Al Ain, of the iCub humanoid robot - given by its creator Giorgio Metta from the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa. Last month, the head of the Italian Space Agency, Roberto Battiston, and astronaut Maurizio Cheli had spoken at the Abu Dhabi Higher College of Technology, the day after Abu Dhabi signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding space cooperation with its Italian counterpart.
