Cologne - The exhibition "Aristotelica - Works by Umberto Albanese" hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute of Cologne will be open to the public until August 18. The exhibition dedicated to the artist also explores his work as a scientist. In fact, Umberto Albanese graduated in medicine, specializing in cardiology at the University of Pavia.
He began painting as a young boy and preferred figurative art. His early works already show his interest in experimenting with colors and materials. In his paintings, the focus is on colors as well as on examining elements. In his long career, his works have been on display in many Italian cities - with exhibitions at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, at Artefiera in Bologna, at the 54th Venice Biennale - and abroad, at the UN Palace in Geneva and in France, the USA, the UK, Austria, Switzerland, Mexico and South Korea.
The critic Toti Carpentieri pointed out the fact that, in his paintings, Umberto Albanese identifies four elements/modalities right from the start, namely, color, gesture, sign and word, unified through materials, making a direct reference to quintessence, the fifth element introduced by Aristotle, i.e. the ether, as a harmonious blend of the other four elements.
