Sydney - Second appointment with the Vivacissimo 2017 cycle at the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney: June 29 sees the guitarist Gianfranco Summa in concert, playing music by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Isaac Albeniz, Nikita Koshkin, Manuel Ponce and Mario Giuliani. Born in Potenza in 1988, Summa began studying classical and modern guitar at the age of 12 with Bartolo Telesca.
After admittance to the guitar course in the Gesualdo da Venosa Conservatory in Potenza, he studied under maestro Fabio Fasano and graduated with Aniello Desiderio. Important roles in his musical training were also played by Saverio Sangregorio, Davide Remigio, Stefano Cucci and Dario Orabona. He also took part in specialised masterclasses with Carlo Marchione and Leo Brouwer. He has taught at the Emiolia Musical Association in Potenza.
Summa performs regularly as a soloist and also organizes the "Ricerche di Stile" guitar concert festival, where the most promising guitar players of the future display their talents. In 2015, as Artistic Director, he organized the "City of Picerno International Guitar Festival", which featured a series of international-level musicians from Holland, Japan, Italy and Brazil. In the same year he undertook a three month tour of South America (Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina), with a series of concerts in theaters and universities. In 2016 he moved to Sydney, where he will remain until July 2017 before continuing his concert activities in Mexico.
