Prague - The 16-years old Italian violinist, Lucilla Rose Mariotti, won the international "Kocian Violin Competition" by performing Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Violin Concert in D Major Op. 35. The Czech city of Usti nad Orlici played host to one of the most prestigious international violin competitions that for the very first time in its history was won by an Italian musician.
As part of her prize, Lucilla Rose will record for Czech Radio and perform at the opening of the Festival next year with the orchestra as a soloist. In 2017, Lucilla Rose also won the "Josef Muzika" International Violin competition at Nova Paka, receiving a mention for best performance of "Dza More" by S. Bodorova, a contemporary composition, which was compulsory in her class. She also came out the winner for category V at the "Josef Micka" International violin competition in Prague, and was awarded the special prize "The PhDr. Josef Micka Award".
Lucilla Rose was invited to play as a soloist with the orchestra at the Krom International Festival in 2018 under the direction of the world acclaimed director Tomas Netopil. The competition, named after Jaroslav Kocian (born in 1883 at Usti nad Orlici and died in 1950 in Prague), a Czech virtuoso violinist, composer and professor at the Music Conservatory in Prague, is reserved to young violinists.
