Brussels, May 11 - The play 'Napucalisse' by Italian playwright, actor and theatre director, Mimmo Borrelli, will open on Thursday May 11 in Brussels at the premise of the Italian Cultural Institute in the Belgium capital, as part of the events featured in the 'Campania!' initiative.
Mimmo Borelli, accompanied live by Antonio della Ragione's music scores, will narrate the story of Pulcinella, a famous Commedia dell'Arte character, who meets Vesuvio, a volcano that has just woken up after a very long time. Vesuvio has the power either to infuse life in Naples or to cause its demise, and is ready to wash away the city's sins even if it means that many innocents will pay the price for it.
Being on the verge of an unexpected ending, Naples looks at itself in the mirror, taking stock of its own sins and finally acquiring a courageous awareness. Borrelli's 'Napucalisse', written in 2012, opened the season at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, with music composed by Giorgio Battistelli. The performance in Brussels has been co-organized by the Italian Cultural Institute and the Campania Region.
