Cape Town - Prizes have been awarded by the Italian embassy in South Africa to the winners of a photography competition. Twenty-eight children from Rivoningo primary school in Soshanguvu, Pretoria, were asked to record their day using digital cameras provided by the embassy and the UN Volunteers programme. They were backed by the Open Window Institute, which offered a training course on how to use the cameras and natural light. Itumeleng Moleko was overall winner for the most impressive image, along with Nhleketo Nkanyane, Duduzile Mahlangu and Ntokozo Maluleka. They received a gift from the Lego Foundation, while all 56 photographs, two by each student, were displayed by the embassy at the Ga-Rankuwa Arts and Craft Centre. The exhibition, "Bo'nna - from my point of view", was organised by the Italian Embassy, Pretoria town hall, Oxfam Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute, the UN Volunteer programme and the Open Window Institute. The event will continue with other exhibitions of students' work, in South Africa and Italy next year, said Alessandro Costa, First Secretary at the Italian Embassy. (AGI)
