Rome - Eni made its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced by the Jangkrik field, in the deep waters of Indonesia and destined for the internal Indonesian market. The communication was made in a statement from the company. The 22,500m3 load left the liquefaction plant in Bontang, in East Kalimantan, destined for Bali, where it will be handed over as part of the long-term LNG supply contract signed with PT Pertamina (PERSERO) in June 2015.
"Jangkrik is a project designed with an excellent time-to-market, earlier than expected, that makes the most of synergies with the existing terminal in Bontang and with other gas discoveries in the surrounding area. These could be put into production by including them in the pre-existing value chain", declared ENI's Ceo, Claudio Descalzi. "I am extremely proud of my team and the relationships established, on the basis of this success, with Pertamina, the Authorities and all the stakeholders", concluded. Eni started production in Jangkrik in May 2017, earlier than expected. After being treated on board the FPU "Jangkrik", the gas produced is sent to a reception plant on land. Thanks then to the transport system on the Island of East Kalimantan, it reaches the liquefaction plant in Bontang.
The LNG produced is sold under long-term contracts, partly to the PT Pertamina and the remaining part to ENI itself, who will sell it as part of its LNG international portfolio, in accordance with the strategy announced in February. Eni operates Muara Bakau PSC with a 55% participating share, held through its regulated Eni Muara Bakau BV. The other PSC partners are ENGIE E&P (via its subsidiary GDF SUEZ Exploration Indonesia BV), with 33.334%, and PT. Saka Energi Muara Bakau, with 11.666%. All the activities are carried out in coordination with SKKMigas, the company representing the Indonesian government. Eni has been operating in Indonesia since 2001 and currently holds a vast portfolio of exploration, production and development activities. Their production activities are based in the Mahakam River delta, in East Kalimantan, through its stake held in the VICO Ltd company (Eni operates with a 50% share, Saka Energi with the remaining 50%) operating the Sanga Sanga PSC, which supplies an average production of 20,000 equivalent barrels of petroleum per day.
