Belgrade - The exhibition entitled "Splendour of the Renaissance" will run in Belgrade until June 30, hosted by the Museum of the City of Belgrade. The show, organised by the Italian Cultural Institute, seeks to call attention on a part of the Renaissance that has disappeared and can only be imagined by looking at the figurative material available.
These are the precious fabrics from Renaissance and Baroque times, the sumptuous gowns made for the grand celebrations of the Italian courts, and the decorative elements which were created on those occasions that are for the most part no longer visible. If they are, they are either very few in number, damaged, or original pieces preserved in some museums. The exhibition installations showcase 30 ceremonial outfits, through the study of Renaissance paintings, which have been placed on special platforms next to the photographic reproduction of the painting reference.
The costumes exhibited are the product of several years devoted to research and work on materials and techniques. They are unique for the precious and beautiful features that make of them true masterpieces of Italian artisans and textile manufacturers, testifying to the high quality that only Italian craftmanship can attain. The installation is complemented by the "Prince's Banquet", a scene which displays a special space set up as a dining room in a Renaissance Palace, and decorated to welcome guests at a banquet table. A majestic wall tapestry, a table set with china and decorative elements with a plate rack make up the major elements of this part of the exhibition which will guide visitors across an important aspect of Italian culture of the past: wine and gastronomic offerings.
