Rome - Enel has launched, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Chile Ltda. ("EGPC"), the first plug-and-play and emission-free commercial micro-grid, powered by PV modules and hydrogen and lithium storage systems. The plant, as the company explained in a note, can cover part of the energy demand of the base camp where over 600 technicians live, which is near the Enel geothermal plant of Cerro Pabellon in Ollague, located in the Antofagasta region of Chile.ù
"It is an innovative project that proves it is possible to build micro-grids powered by fully renewable sources, which can generate emission-free power in an efficient and continuous way. The plant represents a new cornerstone in our R&D activities aimed at creating systems that can make energy accessible in isolated areas. This is in line with the commitment Enel has undertaken in order to fulfil the UN Sustainable Goal n. 7, guaranteeing affordable and clean energy to everyone," said Antonio Cammisecra, Head of Global Renewable Energies and CEO of Enel Green Power.
