An Italian university is among the world's best

Rome - Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa has been ranked among the world's Top 10 Young Universities. This is shown by the ranking compiled by the English journal Times Higher Education.

It is a most prestigious acknowledgement for the Italian university, which in 2017 is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It is a two-fold achievement, since Sant'Anna has moved to number nine, up one ranking from 2016, despite a 25 percent increase in the number of world's universities taken into consideration.

The number of universities went to 200 in 2017, up from 150 a year earlier. The Times Higher Education ranking system applies the same performance indicators as The World University Rankings (where Sucola Superiore Sant'Anna and Scuola Normale Superiore are the only two universities included in the top 200 list).

The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: Teaching, Research, Citations, International Outlook and Industry Income. "There is no doubt that Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna has raced through the stages on the way to being part of the 'top 10' young universities in the world, even moving up a ranking this year. It is an important achievement which confirms our founding values - talent and merit - that have guided us in selecting everyone who has been contributing to our success," said Rector Pierdomenico Perata.
