Rome - Salini Impregilo signed a 435 million dollar contract with Meydan Group LLC for the construction of the Meydan One Mall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A communique informed that this Mall will be one of the strong points of Dubai's and the Emirates' tourist offer in view of Expo 2020. The Mall is the cornerstone of an extensive urban development plan, to be implemented between Meydan and Al Khail Road, near the city's centre. The aim is to become a major attraction, when the first stage will be completed, by 2020.
According to the agreement signed with Salini Impregilo, the latter has been entrusted with all the structural works of the project: the supervision of the excavations and construction works, including a ski run, and the reinforced concrete support for the metal structure, which will roof the Mall. The construction is due to begin in 2017 and will be completed in 23 months. The construction work is the first phase of this unique urban development project, which will include a canal, a marina, pedestrian and cycling areas, and one of the tallest residential buildings in the world. Two underground metro lines have been planned, one of which (the Green Line) will connect the city to Dubai's airport by 2020.
The contract is part of the 1.7 million euros of procurements allocated during the first months of 2017, already released on the market during the the presentation of the preliminary results of the bids in 2016. The Salini Impregilo Group, one of the major global players in the sector of the constrution of large infrastructural works, has a long-standing presence in the Dubai and Emirates market. Among the various achievements, the Group implemented the Ras Al Khor Interchange and the Parallel Roads R 881 project in Dubai, as well as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Deep Sewer Tunnel in Abu Dhabi.
