Mexico City - The Italian Cultural Institute in Mexico City will organise a lecture on Italian folk music. Sabina Longhitano will illustrate the main features of Italian folk music with a view to arising interest in and enhance the knowledge about a thriving, diverse and extensive genre which represents an invaluable source of information on the identity, culture, lifestyle and history of a community, and is at the same time a lyrical and poetical artistic expression. The lecture will be accompanied by musical performances.
Longhitano, a PhD in Philosophy of Language, works at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (Unam) where she holds the position of 'Titular A' at the Department of Italian Literature and PhD Course in Literature of the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities.She is the head of the Department and co-responsible for the Cattedra Straordinario Italo Calvino [Italo Calvino Extraordinary Chair],together with Fernando Ibarra Chavez.
Longhitano teaches and carries out her research work in the areas of Pragmatics and Literature, Origins, Renaissance and 20th Century Italian Literature, folk culture with a special focus on songs, didactics and production of didactic material.
