Islamabad - Italy has always helped Pakistan protect its cultural heritage. Now Italian ambassador, Stefano Pontecorvo, has continued this support with a project to send Italian experts to the historic city of Multan. A plan, "Sustainable, Social, Economic and Environmental Revitalisation in the Historic Core of Multan City", has been produced by the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, the Farnesina, the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry and Cooperazione Italiana. It was funded by a debt swap between the governments of Italy and Pakistan. Mr Pontecorvo stressed the importance of the project to preserve the historic town centre of Multan, and Italy's commitment to such projects that protect and promote the protection of Pakistani cultural heritage. Italy has been doing such work in the Swat region for 60 years. This project is to revitalise the city centre socially and economically and improve living conditions. (AGI)
