(AGI) - Rome, 16 Nov. - Vittorio Sandalli has been appointedthe new Italian Ambassador to Indonesia, as confirmed today bythe Italian Foreign Ministry. Sandalli, who was born in Rome in1957, joined the Italian Air Force in 1977, and worked his wayup to become Captain, serving both in Italy and on overseasmissions. After obtaining his Law Degree from La SapienzaUniversity in Rome in 1985, he began his diplomatic career withthe Foreign Ministry in 1990, first within thetelecommunications department and then for the staffdirectorate-general. From 1992 to 1995 he was posted at theItalian Embassy in Lusaka, after which he was transferred toAnkara. In 1998 he moved to Maputo and in the year 2000returned to the Foreign Ministry in Rome to work for the staffdirectorate-general, which he headed up in 2002. Sandallibecame Consul General in Johannesburg in 2003, and wasappointed Italian Ambassador in Tbilisi in 2007. In 2011, backonce more in the Italian Foreign Ministry, he took on the roleof deputy director in the directorate for the internationalpromotion of Italy and territorial autonomy. (AGI). .
