Cagliari - The Panda Natural Power is now on display at the G7allery in Cagliari, at the former Manifattura Tabacchi, which from tomorrow will host G7 Transport. It runs on biomethane produced by wastewater thanks to an ongoing test at a water treatment plant in Bresso-Niguarda (Milan).
The car is currently running its first 80,000 testing kilometres. The #Biometanow project by CAP Group and FCA was launched in the outskirts north of Milan, where the first methane gas station was built supplied through sewage sludge, the so-called "excess sludge", i.e. waste obtained from the wastewater treatment process"."We are converting a water treatment plant in the metropolitan area of Milan into a biorefinery and fuel station," explains Michele Falcone, General Manager of CAP.
"The scientific supervision of Cnr-IIA (Institute of Atmospheric Pollution Research) and the technological expertise of the FCA Group (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) are essential. The plant in Bresso can produce more than 340,000 kg of biomethane, the fuel required for 416 vehicles to travel every year for 20,000 kilometers. The CAP group intends to convert its main water treatment plants into as many biorefineries, thus allowing 4,500 pandas per year to be fuelled for 20 kilometers each.
