Cagliari - The fifth edition of the international wine competition "Grenaches du monde" took place in Sardinia last week. It was a good opportunity to establish new contacts and launch new projects engaged in promoting Cannonau wines across the Mediterranean. Sardinia was awarded with 44 prizes during the competition, 18 of which were gold medals, thus earning most of the 51 medals assigned to Italian wineries. As a result Italy ranked second, together with France, in a competition in which a 100-juror panel assigned 108 medals to Spain, the country that was celebrated as the winner for 2017. The next edition will take place in Catalonia. "'Grenaches du monde' has given us a chance of internationally showcasing our Cannonau wine, a product of excellence and the symbol of Sardinia's identity," underlined the Deputy Governor of the Sardinia Region, Raffaele Paci. "We are prioritising top-quality agrifood products, a sector which is very attractive and could become the new prime mover for the region's economy. The event has also given us the invaluable opportunity of showing our splendid Sardinia, its scenic landscapes, the sea, the hinterland, its traditions, handicrafts and agrifood products to the whole world."
