Italian engineers to start repairs on Mosul Dam on Oct. 1

(AGI) Baghdad, Sept 15 - Italian engineers and technicians will begin repairs on the Mosul Dam in northern Iraq on Oct. 1 as scheduled, the dam's manager, Riyadh Ezzulddin Ali al-Naemi, told the Agenzia Nova news agency. Mr Al-Naemi said the civilian sector isn't able to identify potential terrorist attacks against the Mosul Dam. "The U.S. and the Italian, Iraqi, and Kurdish Peshmerga forces have access to intelligence on this matter," he explained. With regards to the repairs, entrusted to the Italian company Trevi, the Mosul Dam manager said the contract signed in March is for 18 months of work, with the first six dedicated to planning the repairs. Mr Al-Naemi added that the Italian personnel will begin maintenance work on Oct. 1, as per the agreed schedule. The contract between the Iraqi government and Trevi company to repair the 3.6 km-long structure is worth 296 million dollars. Italy will deploy 500 soldiers to guard the workers. (AGI). .
