New Italian-Amharic dictionary presented in Addis Ababa

(AGI) Addis Ababa, Dec 22 - The Italian Cultural Institute ofAddis Abeba presented the new Italian-Ahmaric dictionary,during discussions on the complex yet intense relations betweenItaly and Ethiopia in Language and Philological Studies. Thedictionary was supervised by Professor Berhanu Abba, who diedin 2008, and subsequently edited by Gianfrancesco Lusini,Professor of Amharic at the University of Naples, L'Orientale.Its publication is most significant in terms of its scientificrigour and quality, as well as because of the long lapse oftime since an equivalent similar work has been published,albeit not so exhaustive, dating back to 1937. More than onehundred guests attended the book launch, most of whom wereprofessors of Linguistics, Philology and Modern EuropeanLanguages at the University of Addis Ababa, as well asrepresentatives of the Istituto di Studi Etiopici, and Italiancitizens and numerous university students attending Italiancourses. The publisher, Arada Books, was also commended, beinga business set up ten years ago with the support of Italianresidents in Ethiopia, to promote cultural relations betweenthe two countries, which has led to a large number ofpublications of Italian authors.
